We recognize that once a child gets behind academically, it can be very difficult for him or her to catch up without receiving individualized help. At Grant County College Bound, kids in grades K-12 will be able to receive personal tutoring in math, science, reading, and writing. We also recognize the importance of providing enrichment opportunities to augment the learning process and will provide activities aimed to inspire and enlarge engaging minds. Our community mentors will also collaborate with local schools and assist them in their efforts to help kids rise up and progress.
We understand that there are many kids who would like to go to college but just don’t know how to make it happen. At Grant County College Bound, we will provide direction for youth regarding classes to take in middle school and high school that will best prepare them for college. We will offer activities designed to help them learn life skills, social skills, time and money management skills, and interview skills. We will also provide access to and mentoring for standardized testing strategies, ACT prep, dual enrollment, available scholarships and how to apply for them, financial aid, and information regarding various colleges and universities, including their enrollment requirements and standards. In short, at Grant County College Bound, we will provide information and direction for a successful college application process and experience.
We realize that in order to get excited about something as important as college, it is valuable to experience it firsthand. At Grant County College Bound, we will provide opportunities to visit various colleges and universities in order to give kids an authentic experience and to get them excited about their future. We will also bring in guest speakers and tour local businesses specific to the interests of our youth participants.
We appreciate that while it is very important to work hard academically in order to get into college, it is also important to play hard. A good balance of physical and intellectual vigor is essential to one’s overall health. At Grant County College Bound, we will provide an hour or two, after Saturday mentoring sessions, of organized physical activity in order to help keep minds fresh and to help kids stay fit and feeling good.
Although we at Grant County College Bound will do our very best to help the kids who participate in our program achieve their goal of attending college, we strongly believe that the ultimate way to influence a child and help him/her succeed is for that child to have a strong support system in the home. At Grant County College Bound, we will offer services and mentoring for parents who want to take an active role in their child’s education but just are not sure how. We will help empower parents to become influential advocates for the success of their children’s futures.
